Sp\u00e4ter diente die Halle als Lagerhalle des Zementanlagenbaus Dessau. Die Sportfreunde der Betriebssportgemeinschaft ZAB Dessau dr\u00e4ngten mit Erfolg auf eine eigene Sportst\u00e4tte: 1964\u20131965 bauten Sportler und Betriebsangeh\u00f6rige die Rundbogenhalle zur ZAB-Halle um. Am 17. Februar 1965 wurde der erste Bauabschnitt fertiggestellt. Nach Abschluss der Arbeiten verf\u00fcgte die Halle \u00fcber 1.800 Sitzpl\u00e4tze. 1974 war die Halle Spielort f\u00fcr vier Begegnungen der Hallenhandball-Weltmeisterschaft in der DDR.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ce_text block\">\n<p>Am 15. Mai 2000 starteten die umfangreichen Umbauma\u00dfnahmen mit einem Aufwand von 5,5 Millionen Euro. Am 24. Februar 2002 wurde die damals noch Sporthalle an der Robert-Bosch-Stra\u00dfe genannte Halle mit einem Stabhochsprungmeeting feierlich er\u00f6ffnet.<\/p>\n<p>Die Namensgebung erfolgte im M\u00e4rz 2002 bei einem Handballl\u00e4nderspiel zwischen Deutschland und der Schweiz.
